Corporate History

The Center for Case Management (CCM) is a totally independent, clinician-owned company. CCM has no parent corporation or subsidiaries. CCM is a Sub-S corporation, incorporated in 1991 in Massachusetts. There have never been mergers or consolidations in its history.

CCM’s predecessor was The Center for Nursing Case Management, begun in 1986 as a for-profit company within New England Medical Center Hospitals, Boston. Its invention of clinical case manager roles and clinical paths/CareMap(TM) tools quickly spread around the world as a way to reduce acute care length of stay per diagnosis or condition while maintaining quality outcomes. In 1989, CNCM left NEMCH under one owner until 1991 when Kathleen Bower and Karen Zander became co-owners and changed the name to CCM. As Principals, they built on a long tradition of personally managing environments that define and foster professional accountability for results. Upon Kathleen Bower’s retirement to Principal Emeritus status in 2013, Karen Zander became the sole owner and President of CCM. Bonnie Geld, MSW, became Vice-President in January, 2014.  Karen Zander retired in Jan , 2018 , Bonnie Geld became the owner and President of CFCM !!!

In Jan of 2018 , CFCM also welcomed its first Chief Medical Officer , Thomas Higgins, MD, MBA, FACP, MCCM.
